SITE DrSCRIPTION <br />• FOR <br />PIb?YON-JUddIP~. rJOCDLAI;D <br />Range in elevation: 5,000 to 7,500. <br />Precipitation Range: 12 to 18". <br />Average annual temperature: 49° to 53o F. <br />Frost Free Period: 60 to 120 days. <br />The pir~on - juniper type iaoodland occurs at the lor:est elevations cf.the <br />coniferous taoodland types in Colorado. It is the transition zone between <br />grasslands and the montane forests. At the lo•,;er limits the type may <br />consist of scatte~•edto almost pure stands of Utah juniper on the ;lestern <br />slope. :.s the type blends into the Ponderosa pine or oakbrush types, <br />pinyon pine ant Roclgrtfountain juniper becone the dominant species. <br />Between the e.'ctrenes pinyon and the various junipers constitute a true <br />plant association. <br />associated Understory plants: (Upper Limits)Plountain mahogany, Indian <br />rice grass, mutton grass, sedges, prarie junegrass, big sagebrush, <br />service berry, cliff rose.
