DEPT. OF NATURAL RESOURCES
Gravel has been mined in an dry alluvial open pit to an .approximate elevation
of Q270, as shown on Exhibit C in the existing mining area. Ihrring the present
stage of operation, gravel will be removed from the area north of the existing
floor by dozing down slope on the north wa7.1 in west, east and south directions
toward the c~ueher. It is planned to crush all of the gravel obtained in this
manner on Hite. The pit, floor vill ba expanded and the crusher ralornted to th~~
north as the wall is mines! away. The process will continue until the west and
north slopes have been mitred to the extent shown in Exhibit F. "Pit. Run"
gravel will be taken ocasaionally from the oast wall with front end loaders. It
is anticipated that this will represent l.esa than 10;6 of all gravel. mined. There
ie no overburden and uirtllally no topsoil to he stripped anti spoiled or stockpiled.
The gravel stratum is exposed thruout. the site. 3~rrfacF, rwroff, resulting from
heavy rains. is kept away from the crusher and adj+rcenc floor ~y boing channe]ed
to the southwest corner to a reacessed area that can be seen in Exhibit C. Here
it infiltrates into the underling sands and groundwater.
The present stage of operation involves only the west approrimate 10 acres.
An estimated additional 3(10,000 tons can be taken from this 10 acres, supplinE;
tha eoranty for tho next 7-•10 years. Approximately 300,000 tens has been mined
to date. Thruout the operation, 3-4 acres would be classified as a major dis-
tilrhance aroa involved wil;h the earthmoving of gravel towards the crusher.
Another 3-4 acres would ba classified as moderate disturbance consisting primarily
i
of the adjacent pit floor„ The remainder are minor disturbance areas, The west
TO acres will be reclaimed after completion of mining operations there.
