SNELTON, Director
DATE: March 6, 1987
T0: Mr. John T. Ungefug, Southway Construction Company
FROM: Anne C. Baldrige, Reclamation Specialist
RE: Fiie No. M-87-040
Adequacy Items
The following items must be addressed by the applicant in order to satisfy the
applicable requirements of C.R.S. 34-32-101 et seq. Idineral Rules and
Regulations of the Mined Land Reclamation Board'-
1. The operator should be aware that once this 110 Permit is approved the
111 Permit will be terminated. The 110 Permit should stand on its own.
In this case I have taken the Wildlife and Soil Conservation Service
(S.C.S.) reports from the previously submitted 111 Permits. In the
future Southway should submit that information as part of the 110
application.
2. It appears that mining will occur very close to the Costilla River.
What is the potential for the river to rechannelize into the pit? Will
any protective measures be utilized to prevent this?
3. A11 the information presented indicates that in spite of bing close to
the river the pit will not intercept groundwater. Is this assumption
true also during spring runoff?
4. The application indicates that one foot of overburden must he removed to
reach the deposit. What will be done with this overburden upon
reclamation? Where will this overburden be stockpiled?
5. The copy of the proposed mine plan map is of very poor quality. Please
submit a better quality map.
cc: Edward Bischoff, Minerals Program Supervisor
/bdc
7939E
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
