Their
Hstimator/Sales Representative is Mr. Sprague M. Mayger (303)
249-1815/ FAX (303) 249-2503 (with the Montrose address of 21830
Highway 550 South 81401).
My family and neighbors are formally protesting the building of a
gravel pit along with its accompanying weigh station, concrete
and asphalt plants at 21830 Highway 550 South for the reasons of
health, safety, devaluation of property value, lost income,
destruction of priceless scenic beauty, and threat to endangered
species aad wildlife habitat_ '
My family Would be the most detrimentally affected by this
project since it would be on1Y several hundred feet from our
front door and the winds would blow the dust right into our home.
Three of us have documentable respiratClY problems. My
grandmother has diminished lung capacity, Mom has chronic
bronchitis from an almost fatal bou: with pneumo.^.i a, and I have
recurring difficulty with sinusitis and bronchitis. Constant
exposure to dust would adversely impact our health and longevity.
The decibel level would also be detrimental for the three senior
citizens whose hearing is already diminishing.
No answers have been given as to how this operation would impact
our septic system, well and irrigation water and our vAgetable
garden.
Safety issues include increased traffic on an already heavily
congested U.S. Highway 550. A planned acceleration/deceleration
lane will endanger ALL commuters, especially school bus traffic.
The depth of the pits and the constant heavy equipment traffic
would threaten our families, pets, visitors and neighbors.
Neighbors use the existing access road to our. home to•go fishing
in South Canal and the Uncompahgre River which flow through our
property. '
The southern section of Montrose County is prized for its prime
real estate but this Froject will cause our property value. to
plummet. In the almost fourteen Years of our ownership we have
98328106 P.01
