Colontlo 80751
(707) 532-1829
This investigation of the environmental hydrology of the White River
Basin and its tributaries is part of a comprehensive environmental study being
conducted by Thorne Ecological Institute for Northern Coal Lompany. The area
of particular concern is the Lurtis Creek watershed in the vicinity of Rienau
Mine, near Meeker, Colorado.
The principal objectives of this report are to describe the natural

hydrologic system as it exists today and to briefly discuss impacts from
ongoing and future mining operations by Northern Coal Company. Insofar as
possible, these impacts have been quantified and proposals made to mitigate
impacts in those situations where the water resource may be adversely affected.
