Since the perimeter around the lake is approximately 8300 feet, the width of wetland will be from 5'
below surface to 3' above surface for a total width of 8.0 feet. Therefore, the area of this seeding is
1.24 acres, which will be converted to the same acreage of valuable wetlands once the plants grow.
The east shelf wetland produced from dozing the berm between Phases 1 and 2 is 1.50 acres in size
while the shelf between Phases 1 and 3 is 0.74 acres. Seeding will normally be done during two
seasons; in the fall and spring when temperatures aze cooler and adequate soil moisture aze present.
Due to the nature of the overburden together with the lack of topsoil in the azea, hay, straw or fiber
mulch is considered to be necessary. Fiber mulch will be applied at a rate of 2,500 pounds per acre.
If straw mulch is used, it will be certified "weed free" and applied at a rate of 2,000 pounds per acre
and either crimped or "tackified" at 150 pounds per acre.
Therefore, the fmal breakdown of reclaimed acreage is as shown below:
Area Acreage Post-Use
Lake (no seeding) 32.0 Wildlife Habitat
Wetlands (seeded) 3.47 Wildlife Habitat
Flat azea above lake and upper
slopes of lake (seeded to
dryland) 16.29 Wildlife Habitat
Staging Area and trench azea
(no seeding) 17.51 CommerciaUlndustrial
Total 69.27
At the end of mining Phase 3, the only wetland area that will be needed to be seeded are 25% of the
fringe wetlands or .25 x 1.24 acres = 0.31 acres and the west shelf wetland area of 0.74 acres.
Therefore the total wetland azea to be seeded at the end of mining is 1.04 acres.
Gilsorrite PiY 9/03 30
