• Footnotes to Table 2 (Continued) <br />Topsoil Suitability <br />The topsoil quality ratings are based on criteria developed <br />by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as presented in Table <br />2. Stoneness and rock outcrop pattern were also considered. <br />Average Usable Topsoil Depth <br />Usable topsoil is considered here to be the surface weathered <br />layers where abundant roots are found, and the layers are <br />presumed to be fertile -- generally the A horizon and a portion <br />of the upper B or C horizon.
