Fecal Coliforrs
Previous fecal coliform levels were all low and below state standards. Levels
• found during parts of August and September, however, were high and often in er.cess
of state standards, Tne source of these him values mzy be from orchard pickers
or construction r:orY.ers rrho camped near the river in the vicinity of the coal
loadout area.
Iron and I;ar.ranese
Very high levels of total iron can oriEinate from the mine area during heavy
spring runoff (up to 100 times OS':; standards). Tnese levels, however, which are
associated ;nth heavy sediment loads, will mostly be controlled by sedimentation
daps from entering the Ido~~h Fork.
In the I:orth Fcrk, spring r:noff concentrations of total iron in the study
area ray reach 60-70 times OS*; standards, with much of the concentrations origir~
!,• ating upstream of the control station.
Total rangaaese concentrations originating in the C,hlch ray also exceed OSY,
standards by approxiaately three-fold. Sedimentation dates in Yiestmoreland (~1ch
~."i]1 control this source except during exceptional storms. A11 values in the
North Fork ranged from 1. - 870 ug~l and did not exceed OSAf standards of 4000 ug~l.
•
3-5
