• REVEGETATION PLAN - RULE 2.05.4(2)(e)
The Bear Coal Company will comply with all recommendations and
suggestions of the Division regarding periodic sampling of the
revegetated area to the approved standard. The Bear Coal Company will
conduct at the appropriate intervals and utilize proper sampling methods
and sampling statistical tests. Unless better techniques are approved
in the future, the Bear Coal Company will follow the two recommended
guidelines for selecting the proper methods and tests for sampling
revegetation areas. These guidelines are "A Survey of Techniques for
Measurement of Herbaceous and Shrub Production Covering Diversity on
Coal Lands in the West" and "A Statistical Evaluation of Revegetation
Success on Coal Lands in the West" (Larson, 1980). The Bear Coal
Company will utilize the same sampling measures recommended by the
Division for the Bear No. 1 and No. 2 Reclamation Plan.
As noted, the area in and around the Bear No. 3 portals has been
• previously disturbed. Therefore, the Bear Coal Company will meet the
revegetation success criteria of Rule 4.15.10 for previously mined
lands. The success standards for ground cover of living plants will be
set by recommendation of the Division.
The Bear Coal Company will include the Division's recommended revisions
of the seed mixture; a revised seed mixture is attached. The following
are the revisions to the seed mixture:
1. The introduced grasses, Agropyron elongatum (tall wheatgrass), and
Bromus hiebarjteinii (meadow brome) will be removed from the mix and
replaced by the natives bluebunch wheatgrass (Agropyron spicatum and
Agropyron inerme) and mountain brome (Bromus margina~us).
2. Yellow sweet clover will be removed from the seed mixture.
• 3. Rubber rabbitbush and big sagebrush will be eliminated from the seed
mixture.
-46-
