Timothy M. Scanlon
TMS Consulting
46125 County RoadT.
P.O. Box 53
Sagvache, Colorado 81149
(719)655-2709
E mail: scanion@amigo.net
June 14,2007
Moffat County Commissioners
221 Victory Way, Suite 130
Craig, Colorado 81625
RE: Proposed Sheehan Pit Projeci -Special Use_Petmit and DRM&S 110 Permit Application
for ~. & D Sand and Gravel, I mile south of Slater, Moffat County, Colorado -(The site is
located on an 8.14 ace in the NE/4 of Section 21, T12N, R89W; map attached).
llear BOCC:
J. & S. Saved and Gravel is applying for a DIvIR&S Limited Impact 110 Permit and a Moffat County
Special Use Permit for an 8.14 acre site (a copy of the 110 Applicarion Form and Notice is enclosed
as required). A smaller 3 acre pit has/had operated since 1994 at the same site. The applicant and
landowner wish to notify die BOCC as to the nature of the project and request comments and/or
concerns that the BOCC may have. The site is basically a large sandstone outcrop and most of the
production a[ [he site will be for tip-rap and boulder/rock type material. .111 areas ate currently dassi£ed as
rangeland and all disturbed areas will be reclaimed [o rangeland. There is very limited vegetation, mostly
bare exposed rock at the surface.
I have discussed the particulars of the pit project with your County Planner, blr. Jerry I-Ioberg and
visited both his office and the site earlier this month as well. The landowner and J. & S. Sand and Gravel
will be applying for a-Moffat County Specia] Use Permit through the County Planning Office and process
for the site and will also contact Moffat County Road and Bridge Department concerning site access. The
3 acre pit had operated from 19)4 to 2004 at the same site and had access to Moffat County Road 1.
This will be a small operation associated with the landowner similar to the previous one on the same
site. Operations at the site will be approximately 20 days per year. Generally site activities will be contained
ro the previously disturbed 3 acre area initially plus some rock scaling from above previous mined areas
and along the eastside of the site above the County Road I RO.W. Future mining activities will move to
the west and north from the initial 3 acre area which will be used for the site operations. Limited screening
and crushing, possible asphalt production and material stockpiling operations may be temporally located at
the site from time to time as with die previous operations at the site. Please contact me at (719) 655-2709
if you have any comments or questions. Thank You.
Rega>~s,
T;mo~L7~ ~~~/2 ov~~
Geologe
