(d) Wildlife information:
A Notification Letter was sent [o N.W. Regional Manager for The Colorado Division of
Wildlife, Grand Junction, Colorado office requesting comments. A copy of the letter is attached
to this exhibit. At [his time the D.O.W. has not provided any response or comments to the
applicant.
The site is mostly steep to very high angle folded sandstone outcrop. Previous site mining
activities have disturbed and reclaimed approximately 1.34 acres. Vegetation is sparse across
most of the proposed permit area lying outside the limits of the previous site permit area.
The high outcrop area may provide some elk and deer winter forage range areas above the creek
valley on the south facing slopes as pasture areas along the creek below maybe snow covered
during winter months. The site may also provide habitat for other small mammals and vazious
indigenous and/or migratory birds. "Mud Swallow'' nests are located on some areas of vertical
or blocky outcrop. The area is also very well known as "prime" western rattlesnake habitat.
Since the proposed permit area is located on private property and adjacent to [he County Road
R.O.W. the impact on the various hunting seasons would be minimal, as hunting activities for
the general public would not be allowed at the site. The general effect of the proposed
operation on the existing wildlife would be minimal. Any re-grading, topsoil replacement
reclamation and re-vegetation at the site in disturbed areas would actually improve the site as far
as wildlife habitat and rangeland future use
