Minor Revision No. 313
MDW Data Compilation
July 21, 2005
To help explain the compilation, the following items/assumptions should be noted:
• The information presented here represents the prepazer's best knowledge based on records
reviews and interviews. Gaps may exist that should be resolved using the institutional
knowledge available at the West Elk Mine.
• The compilation workbook consists of two worksheets; one describing the Drill Hoies and Pads,
the other pertaining to Roads.
• The locations are approximate and attempts were made to describe the position of the drill hole,
pad or road within a Section. However these are not exact, surveyed locations.
• The "Month Drilling Started" information was obtained from drilling records if available.
• The "Date Disturbed" column provides a best estimate by year.
• The "Total Depth" of the holes data was obtained from as-built schematics where available;
otherwise this is an estimate made during the permitting process.
• There have been only two campaigns of Plugging and Abandonment {P&A) for the MDWs to
date; July 2002 and August 2003.
• A "Comments" column is used to provide information such as well nomenclature changes,
approval mechanism revisions and other reference material.
• For pads and drill holes where disturbed azea size information was not available, aone-acre
estimate is used for multi-hole pads, and a 0.5 acre estimate for single-hole pads is used to
estimate disturbed azea. For road disturbance acreages, a road width of 12 feet was used. This
width is felt to conservatively accommodate road surface widths including associated surface
water controls. More refined information can be obtained at a later date if desired.
• Reclamation dates aze provided by yeaz. Specific information on month of seeding or other
detail regazding seed mix, recountouring, or revegetation success is not provided here,
• Some of the pads may have been in existence as exploration drill pads prior to their use for
MDWs. The "Date Disturbed" information for these pads is in reference to their use for MDWs
only.
• The reclamation map referred to in the comments section is from the Mountain Coal Company
West Elk Mine 2004 Reclamation Photograph Project {copy attached).
The attached workbook includes information on wells that were permitted. It also includes information
pertaining to wells that were not drilled for various reasons. Because the information in the attached
spreadsheet is presented chronologically and also numerically by well designation, the reader may have
difficulty tracking the permitted, but not drilled wells. These wells are listed here for clazity:
