<br />NONTECHNICAL SOILS DESCRIP~.uN REPORT <br />weldrge <br />Map ~ Soil none and description <br />Symbol <br />This unit consists of very deep, moderately well <br />drained soils on terraces and mesa summits. These <br />soils formed in alluvium. The surface layer is clay <br />loam about 5 inches thick. The upper part of the <br />subsoil is clay loam about 70 inches thick. The next <br />subsoil layer is gravelly clay loam about B inches <br />thick, atd the lower part of the subsoil is very cobbly <br />clay loam and cobbly clay loam about 21 inches thick. <br />The substratum to a depth below 60 inches is stony clay <br />loam. Permeability of this soil is moderately slow. <br />Available water capacity is high. Effective rooting <br />depth is 60 inches or more. Runoff is medium, and the <br />hazard of water erosion is moderate. A seasonal, <br />irrigation induced, high water table fluctuates between <br />depths of 35 to 50 inches from April through September. <br />This unit is considered prime farmland. <br />Capability Subclass 3E; irrigated; 7C; nonirrigated <br />Capability classification is the grouping of soils to <br />show, in a general way, their suitability for most <br />kinds of farming. It is a practical classification <br />based on limitations of [he soils, the risk of damage <br />when they are used, and the way they respond to <br />treatment. The soils are classified according to <br />degree end kind of permanent limitation, but without <br />consideration of major and generally expensive <br />laMforming that would change the slope, depth, or <br />other characteristics of the soils; without <br />consideration of possible unlikely major reclamation <br />projects. <br />Class III - Severe limitations that reduce choice of <br />crops or require special conservation practices or both. <br />Class VII - Not suited for cultivation. Very severe <br />limitations. Suited for range, woodland or wildlife <br />uses if carefully managed. Usually cannot apply <br />physical practices such as pitting, furrowing, seeding, <br />etc. <br />E -Erosion by wind of water is the major problem. <br />
