Board of Commissioners
Delta County, Colorado September 27, 1989
RE: Gravel Pit
Present Land Use & Existing Plant Co+~+*+~ty
RANGELAND WILDLIFELAND GRAVEL MINING AND STOCKPILING
Native plant community consists of grasses, shrubs, and forbs. See
attached CG-ECS-2 showing plants and their percentage of composition.
Type of Soils
See attached soils map; also descriptions of the major soils identified
on the site where existing and projected mine operations are planned:
ChC, OcA, OcB, PeA, PeB, RaA, RaB, and Rv. Also attached is the suitability
rating as a source of gravel for these soils.
Revegetation Recommendations
Stockpile topsoil when possible; revegetation success is greatly improved
when even 3 to 4 inches of topsoil is available to seed into.
Topsoil stockpiles should be seeded in the fall to reduce erosion and weed
population until reclamation occurs.
When reclamation is doxa , land should be sloped to blend with existing land
contours. Topsoil can then be distributed. Seeding can then be done.
See attached CC-ECS-S for recommendations on seed mixture and rates.
Erosion Prevention and other zonsiderations
Wind and Plater erosion on this site at present are not a problem. There
is a minor natural drainage on this site which is confined to existing
mining area and is not a problem off site.
Sincerely,
~r,~
Jack Warren
Soil Conservationist
Delta field office
Soil Conservation Service
