The Belveal site is
currently native rangeland with a draw to the north, an intermittent stream
along the east with a few old terraces on south half of site area. Plants
presently growing include blue grams, western wheatgrass, green needle, red
three awn, sun sedge and a few yucca.
Please consider the following recommendations for reclamation.
The Belveal site is located on soil type Stoneham sandy loam, 5 to 18 percent
slopes, map unit is SnE. Capability group is VIe - deep, moderately sandy
soils that have a moderately fine textured or medium textures subsoil. This
is a Sandy Plains range site. Native plant community on this site consists of
75-85$ grasses, 0-18$ forbs and 2-16$ shrubs. Vegetation is mainly cool and
warm-season grasses.
ToDSOiling: The current topsoil should be removed and reserved to be used for
reclamation. Topsoil should be spread uniformly over the disturbed area to a
packed depth of 6 inches. This should be 8" - 10" over exposed bedrock. In
event that existing soils have insufficient depth, topso}1 shall-b ro ght
in and spread over the deficient areas. / -~ XI.~tI7 t l ~ ~,~l~y~l
2 SCL l'~'~"' E
Site Preparation: Recl ation g£~the pit should be made by smoothing all
banks to no more the 2:1 slope and should be flatter where feasible and
practicable. The topograp s ould be made smooth with no spoil piles or pits
present.
Grass Seeding: Area being reseeded should be treated as a critical area
planting. When area is being reclaimed by broadcasting rather than drilled,
the rates computed shall be doubled to meet seeding recommendations. The
seedbed should be well settled and firm but friable for seed placement. Soils
that have been over-compacted by equipment should be tilled to break up
rooting restrictive layers, then harrowed, rolled or packed to prepare the
required firm seedbed. Grasses should be drilled using a grass drill from
November 1~` - April 30`b prior to a period of anticipated moisture and after
all other treatment is completed. Recommended planting depth is 'h" to '/a". See
the attached seeding recommendation (CO-ECS-S) for species amount and variety
to use.
The Natural Resources Conservation Service works hand-in-hand with
the American people to conserve natural resources on private lantls AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY PROVIDER AND'c^.1p L0'/eR
