Introduction: <br />The mining of 1st West Mains and West Main panels of the Orchard Valley Mine <br />of Colorado Westmoreland Inc, will extract coal from beneath and adjacent to <br />the Steven's Gulch and East Roatcap Creek Renewable Resource lands. Suffi- <br />ciently larye pillars will be left to ensure that the Renewable Resource <br />Lands will not be affected by underground mining. <br />The method of analysis involved first, evaluating the strength of existiny <br />pillars in the East Mains which are presently mined. These existing pillar <br />sizes were evaluated to estimate their safety factors, and then compared for <br />application under and adjacent to 1st West Mains. <br />• <br /> <br />
