<br /> <br />EXHIBIT B <br />6.3.2 <br />SITE DESCRIPTION <br />AVALANCHE CREEK MARBLE & ALABASTER LLC <br />WHITE BANKS MINE <br />6.3.2(a): Vegetation and Soil Charcteristics <br />The entve permit azea consists ofapproximately 3.5 acres, a little more than'/.-mile east of Colorado <br />Highway 133 on White River National Forest Forest Development Road (FDR) 310. It can be <br />divided into two parts: a relatively flat ancient stream terrace and alluvial fan azea southwest of FDR <br />310, and a rocky hillside area with considerable exposed bedrock northeast of FDR 310. <br />The azea is just south of the region included in the U.S. Department ofAgriculture Soil Conservation <br />Service SO[LS[JRVEYOFASPEN-GYPSUMAREA,COLORADO: PARTSOFEAGLE,GARFIELD,AND <br />PITKIN COUNTIES (1982). It is in an azea that has been mapped by White River National Fores[ as <br />part of then forest resource inventory program. The following preliminary soil descriptions aze <br />derived from Wright, Ron, 1995, SOIL AND ECOLOGICAL LAND UNIT SURVEY, WHITE RIVER <br />NATIONAL NATIONAL FOREST: iJ.S. Dept. Agriculture InServlee Dfaft Report: <br />TERRACE -ALLUVIAL FAN AREA SOUTHWEST OF FDR 310 <br />MAP UNIT: 109A -Subwell family, Endoagolls association, 0 to 10 percent slopes. <br />The permit area is thought to contain only the Subwell portion of this map <br />unit; the Endoaquoll soils are immediately adjacent to and neaz grade with <br />streams and rivers and aze chazacterized by neaz saturation and the water table <br />within one foot of the surface, clearly not the case in the meadow area <br />southwest of FDR 310.] <br />ECOLOGICAL LAND UNIT: 109A -willows and sedges on lower montane, <br />valleys. <br />MAP UNIT SETTINGS <br />Landform: valleys <br />Pazent material: alluvium <br />Geologic symbol: Qa <br />Elevation range: 7,000 to 9,000 ft <br />Aspect: all <br />Climatic wne: lower montane <br />Mean annual precipitation: 16 to 25 inches <br />Mean annual air temperature: 44° to 48° F ~~I L <br />Average annual snowfall: 100 to 200 inches ~^~~~" {(~/ <br />
