CSU
Laboratory of Public Archaeology
303/491-7241
March 12, 1981
Mr. Tom Wainwright
Peabody Coal Co.
12015 E. 46th Ave.
Denver, Colorado 80239
Dear Mr. Wainwright:
Colorado State Unlveralty
Fort Collins. Colorado
80523
This is in response to your request for information concerning
our report on the Seneca II 4-40 area archaeological survey. First,
I served as Principal Investigator on the project, and the report was
written by Mr. Bruce R. Miller.
• Second, all records, photographs and any artifactual material
collected as a part of any of our projects are retained for curation
at CSU unless directed otherwise by the permitting agency. All of the
4-40 records are on file here should you need any further documentation
of the project results.
Third, we define "site" operationally as any locality in which two
or more items of human manufacture or origin within 100 m of one another
and associated with a single potentially habitable area. Isolated features
are also identified as sites. We have been using this definition for some
time though occasionally some of our project coordinators find situations
in the field which require some variation from the ideal.
With regard to our collection procedures, any comment on such
would be irrelevant as the only site located in the survey, an historic
period corral, was not collected. No isolated finds were located.
A copy of the report is enclosed (File no. 78-32c). The editing
problems we had with TI were primarily with regard to the Seneca Strip
area report. I don't recall that we had any changes in the 4-40 report.
Please let me know if we can be of further assistance.
Sincerely,
Calvin H. Jenn
Director
CHJ/mb
Enc. 1
