The amount of algae in the river increased in September nearly <br />threefold over that seen in July. <br />Periphyton <br />Table II.G-7 shows the mean periphyton biomass of the three stations in <br />July and September expressed as ug/m2 in July at the lower station to <br />177.5 ug/m2 in September at the middle station. Values were lower in <br />July than September, There was no measurable difference between <br />stations by sample period as indicated by the standard deviations <br />(S.D. - Table II.G-7). Taxa comparing the periphyton community (Table <br />II.G-8) ere generally the same as is indicated in Table II.G-6 for <br />• plankton teas. <br />Macrophytes <br />The only aquatic macrophyte encountered in the study area was a species <br />of narrow leaf pond weed (Potomogeton sp.) observed in September. The <br />pond weed wsa relatively abundant in silt bottomed areas with low <br />current velocity, forming dense clumps along the banks. <br />• <br />II.G-21 <br />
