priority work be accomplished first; then some rock a»d root wad revetment work along the toe of the vertical banks
could be undertaken. It is not suggested that efforts w lay back these banks, as had been considered in previous
years and plans, be done.
6. David Ballode asked and we agreed to provide for au on-site Forest Service represenullive to direct the work. He
(elt that they could begin the work sometime after the 1 st of November and complete it before Christmas. The
actual duration of the work (based ^p011 What W:IS dI5C11SJl'd t1r15 dily) would be 2 to 3 weeks. The Forest Service
had previously agreed ro provide the seed for revegetatiun. Funding la cover the cost of the Forest Service inspector
and the revegetatiun materials could come from either the Chiet's grant for the San Miguel, that was recently
awarded and/or watershed improvement funds, since we could report target accomplishment with this project.
7. i[ was also agreed that some accounting of the expenditure of money by Telluride gravel needs to be established
so that (here are accurate and acceptable records. Some work has already been done stockpiling material and
regrading of areas. This work was authorized by the previous ranger, prior to signing of the memorandum of
agreement. The value of this work is not documented.
The Forest Service has obtained a Corp of Engineers 404 permit. They will need to be notified of when the work is
starting. They also need to be briefed ou what will be done, as what was agreed to on 9/16 is not exactly what was
authorized by the Corp. However, since it represents less work there should be no problem. John Almy will see
that the Corp is contacted. The San Miguel Watershed Coalition has been very interested in this project and it was
identified as a high priority in the Final San Miguel Watershed Plan. I am asking you to make sure that the
Coalition is notified.
CCU CQ,>o~~--~
OBERT L.
