e. the pressure in the cavity decreases with a corresponding decrease in production
fluid flow.
If any of the above conditions exist, the following process will be initiated:
1. The well pressure, temperature, and flow rate instrumentation will be checked for
accuracy;
2. The well valves will be checked for possible leakage; and
If steps 1 and 2 rectify the problem normal operation of the well will continue; but
if steps 1 and 2 do not rectify the problem the following will occur:
3. Injection into the solution mining well will be discontinued and the density of the
fluids in the well will be balanced. Verbal notification will be given to the EPA
within twenty four (24) hours and written notification within five (5) days.
4. A mechanical integrity test of the casing will be performed by pressurizing the
annular space between the casing and tubing with nitrogen gas. The nitrogen gas
pressure will correspond to the hydrostatic pressure of the top of the cavity. A
mechanical integrity test of the tubing will be performed by closing the wellhead
tubing valve and measuring the pressure of the tubing;
5. A temperature log will be performed to determine if there is any significant
temperature change above the nahcolite-bearing zone;
6. The results of these procedures will be evaluated to determine the best solution for
correcting the problem. The use of additional logging techniques maybe required
to accurately pinpoint any mechanical failures; and
Specific corrective-action procedures will be developed and implemented with the
assistance of the appropriate agencies.
Page 3 of 3
