have been documented at reclaimed sites, where sunflowers are abundant, actively <br />seeking out the seeds for food. The pictures below are from the early years following <br />reseeding (1999) at the Golden Eagle Mine located 20 miles west of Trinidad. This site <br />also experienced abundant rainfall during the first year of reclamation, as did <br />Southfield. The site was a "forest" of annual weeds, including large sunflowers of 6-8 <br />feet in height with an understory of grasses.
