D. Seeding
The CONTRACTOR shall be required to supply the seed. The seed mixture
designated below shall be sown uniformly on the prepared seedbed.
Seeding shall not be done if the ground is frozen. Some areas, such as
rock outcrops, shrub or tree clumps, etc., within the work area limits
are not designated to be seeded. These areas are identified in Exhibit 3.
Drill Seedinq
In all areas where practicable, seeding shall be performed with a
grassland drill with depth bands and seedbox agitator and equipped with
either packing wheels or a cultipacker. The drill shall be capable of
properly handling the seed being planted on all slopes designated for
this method. Seed shall be drilled on the contour. The distance between
drilled furrows shall not be more than twelve (12> inches. Seed shall be
planted one-quarter inch (1/4") to one-half inch (1/2"> deep.
Broadcast Seeding
Broadcast seeding may be used at the CONTRACTOR'S option, where drill
seeding is not practicable due to excessive slope grade or excessively
rocky soil. Regardless of the method used, broadcast seed shall be
covered approximately one-quarter (1/4) to one-half (1/2) inch deep by
flexible-tine harrowing or a similar method acceptable to the PROJECT
MANAGER. If seed is broadcast, either a pneumatic seeder, a hydraulic
seeder, or a hand or machine operated seeder capable of uniform
application of prescribed quantities shall be used. Hydroseeding, if
employed, shall be done prior to hydromulching, in a separate operation.
All seeds shall conform to the current rules and regulations of the State
of Colorado and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Unless exception is
granted by the PROJECT MANAGER, seed shall be thoroughly pre-mixed
(except for legumes) in the required proportions and delivered to the
work site in bags or containers clearly tagged showing the name and
address of the supplier, the net weight of each species of seed in the
mix, the percent of weed seed content, and the guaranteed percentage of
purity and germination for each species furnished. The CONTRACTOR shall
give the tags to the PROJECT MANAGER. The CONTRACTOR shall furnish a
signed statement certifying that the seed furnished is from a lot that
has been tested by a recognized laboratory for seed testing within nine
months prior to the date of delivery to the job site.
Legume seed shall be inoculated with the correct viable inoculant for the
species. Outdated inoculants will not be accepted. Inoculating shall be
done within 48 hours before seeding.
-7-
