The enclt
been prepared in response to the operator's inquiry regarding a revision
plan to reclaim the stockpiled material on site.
The operator has also indicated a desire to revise the reclamation plan to
highwall to remain at its present configuration. Therefore, in addition to 1
demonstration for the stockpiled material, DMG also requires that the ope
stability issues for the highwall. Construction Materials Rule 3.1.5(3) sta
eliminated, all highwalls shall be stabilized." Therefore, DMG must make
the present configuration and geologic conditions of the highwall satisfy t
Materials Rules of the Mined Land Reclamation Board. To facilitate a find
the existing conditions of.the highwall are favorable for such a revision, c
investigations are required.
1. Fracture mapping is required to evaluate the influence of natural fra
in relation to the intact rock. Natural fractures, joints, faults, and ff
control slope failure in rock slopes. Adverse orientation of these sti
when down dipping fractures of fracture wedges daylight in the hig
condition is illustrated in the attached figure 1. The operator must
strike and dip of fractures and foliation exposed in the current high
determine if any adverse orientations exist. A person experienced i
fracture orientations must be employed to conduct the mapping. T
results of the measurements are depicted on a Schmidt equal-area I
the dominant fracture orientations.
~~
DIVISION OF
MINERALS
GEOLOGY
RECLAMATION
MINING•SAFETY
eil I Owens
Grnernur
Greg E bValcher
Esecuuve Director
M¢hael R Long
Dim:ion Dueclor
its required for
~ memo has
the reclamation
Ilow the
~e stability
3tor address
;s that "...If not
finding that
e Construction
ig by DMG that
rtain geologic
ure weakness
ation normally
ctures occurs
wall.
