y,~,c:

•
Mr. Peter Evans - MLRD
Technical Revision - Dam D
Page 3
the grass mixture as per the approved plan. On soils that are
appropriate for crimping mulch, straw will be applied subsequent
to seeding as a mulch at a rate of up to two (2) tons per acre on
areas where the volume of rock fragments are greater than 3 inches
is less than 10 percent. If necessary, the straw mulch will be
anchored to the soil by discing.
The selected revegetation mixture will result in the diversity of
species which will provide for erosion control and has incorporated
the recommendations of the Soil Conservation Service personnel.
A submission has been delivered to you November 6, 1980, regarding
the "Exploratory Trench in the Dam D Area", in which it has been
clearly pointed out that we have not been able to document the ex-
istence of any underground tunnels and/or mining adits connecting the
GEC and Dorchester mining area, particularly within the Dam D area.
However, in the event any potential exists for contributing additional
water flow into the Dorchester underground mine, GEC will seal off
any underground workings that are encountered with a two (2) foot clay
barrier.
The Dam D area is directly adjacent to existing operation, and if
the coal is not mined as part of the immediate operation, approx-
imately 100,000 ton of coal will be left as an uneconomic block and
shall be left forever. Additionally, the existing operation has
almost half-way by-passed this Dam D area. Any future mining would be
too expensive and also create much more environmental disturbances
which will not be experienced if GEC Minerals, Inc. is allowed to mine
the coal as part of an existing, on-going operation. It would be nec-
essary to emphasize the importance of the timing to approve this sub-
mission immediately.
CEC Dinerals, Inc. appreciates the continuing opportunity to work with
the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division in a productive manner.
If you have any questions concerning this technical revision, please
let me know.
Very truly yo rs,
L.K Ch`~C ~~
V.P. Operations
LKC:des
Encl.
cc: Mr. Douglas Layton
