Dept. of 1~st!xal P.esm rr
This letter is to reiterate my understanding of our discussion in your
office on March 15, 1982, concerning mature shrub transplanting at Trapper Mine.
At that time, we reviewed the paper "Reestablishment of Shrubs at the Trapper
Mine" as submitted to you in October of 1981. You agreed that the shrub clump-
ing standard proposed in the paper is acceptable, and we can plan our 1982 shrub
transplanting based on the clump size and distribution criteria discussed in the
paper. This will result in shrub clumps of about 300' in diameter on every 46
acres of reclaimed range sites A and B.
I indicated that we are selecting locations for the clumps based on topo-
graphy and surface drainage features. As we refine these subjective location
criteria, we will keep you apprised. Our clump shapes will be varied to fit the
terrain and more nearly approximate natural conditions.
Although we did not precisely define success standards for shrubs; it seems
logical to judge success based on the size of the clumps, the distance between
them, and Y, survival of the transplanted shrubs within the clumps.
Mike, I.appreciate your cooperation in resolving this complex issue. If I
have misrepresented our meeting in any way, please contact me.
Sincerely,
WES/js
~ilcC~ ~~~_~
Wayne E.
