In our letter of May 11,1989 we proposed using the existing
trench and part of the gob pit as an asbestos disposal site, and we are still pursuing
those possibilities. In our survey of the site we have found two cased monitoring
wells installed by Cooper & Clark Consulting Engineers as pazt o>: ttheir ground water
study of the disposal site. The wells are numbered 2 & 5 on their maps. I want
to bring the existance of these wells to your attention as you plan to complete
your reclamation of the Hawk's Nest Mine. These wells are important to the site
especially as the county continues to utilize the site as a landfill. We request
that these wells not be disturbed during^your reclamation of the site. Also, if
protective steel casings with lockable covers could be installed over the PVC casing
as pazt of the site reclamation this would be very helpfull.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
s Truly,
enneth Nordstrom
Director of Environmental Health
KN:iwp
