Baldwin
Re: Weed Control on Gravel Pits and Land Fill
~~~~ ~~
°~6rii: ~~,o
Mip. ~ Qy f w~~ j,7~
Noxious weed control on the following locations was completed the last two weeks of September
2001. Comments are as noted.
Lee Pit: Russian knapweed treated with Curtail. Rehabilitation efforts can be begin any time
after October 30. M-/983 -/S~ 9
Bedrock Pit: Russian knapweed treated with Curtail. Timing was excellent and a 90%
control result is expected. Due to the abundance of Russian knapweed along
the river bottom, it is recommended that competitive grass species be
established as soon as possible. It would be well to inspected this site for
reinvading knapweed in 2003 and determine if follow up weed control
treatment will be necessary. ivl- / 483 - ~ S ~
B.L.M./ West Pit: Approximately five acres of Russian knapweed was treated. The majority
of the treatment area was immediately north of the existing pit, but
infestations were found in the pit, along the west and north sides. Because
of the size and scattered nature of the infestation, it would be wise to plan
on follow up treatment in 2002 and 2003. M- / g 92 -017
Nucla Land Fill: This site has been previously rehabilitated, but has a significant infestation
~y/} of Russian Knapweed along the north west boundary, with minor
infestations scattered over the approximate 100 plus acres. The area
accessible to the Spray Truck and the ATV was treated with Curtail. There
does exist an approximate five acre site, located along the north perimeter,
that was not treated due to the inability of the ATV to negotiate a path
through the tree stumps and uneven terrain. This area is outside the
rehabilitation area, but inside the fence along the north side. Suggest that
future weed treatment be planned in 2002 and that treatment of the area
aforementioned be treated with an aerial application or a ground hose lay.
