t 7.0 Exploration Methods
' 7.1 Equipment
One contractor-supplied drilling unit will be sufficient to complete
the drilling program within the scheduled time period. A basic
drilling unit consists of a Gardner Denver 2500 or equivalent air-water
combination drill mounted on a tandem axle truck, drill-pipe, auxiliary
' equipment and tools, a water truck and a s upporting pickup truck.
' 7.2 Safety and Protection of Environment
' All personnel will be instructed in techniques to prevent accidental
fires. Portable fire extinguishers will be available in all drill rigs
and vehicles. Blow-out preventers should not be necessary since no gas
' occurrences were reported during previous drilling programs in the
area.
' The chosen access routes coupled with proposed reclamation will
minimize soil erosion. During the time proposed for drilling, there
will be little or no surface water in the area. Mud pits will be dug
at each location to receive water that may be produced from each hole.
The drill hole plugging procedure will prevent pollution of any ground
water intercepted. Damage to air quality, wildlife and wildlife
habitat are unlikely due to the proposed limited access and short term
' nature of the exploration program. Hazards to public health and safety
are essentially non-existent due to the nature of the equipment and the
remote location.
' 7.3 Drilling Procedures
' A Western Fuels geologist will be assigned to the drilling unit and
will be on site during all field operations.
' Rigs will be leveled without grading a drilling pad, cif"possible. Mud
pits will be dug as required. Holes with a 5-1/4 inch diameter-will be
drilled with tri-cone bits, using air with mist injection and/or water
' and drilling mud as dictated by hole conditions. Cutting samples will
be obtained and described. Drilling depths will range from about 860
to 975 feet. Total depth of each hole will be at least 20 meters below
' the deepest mineable coal. The estimated depths by hole are shown in
Table 8-1 below.
