Ucpl. of P!atural fesoarces
As discussed by telephone on July 15, 1983, Sheridan Enterprises plans to
develop a rail loadout on a 7-acre site just east of Mack along U.S. 50.
The site was disturbed when the railroad was developed. Dir} excavated for
the below grade railroad bed has been scattered parallel to the railroad.
Much of the mounded soil has now been revegetated. Various Atrlplex shrubs
and a few perennial grasses along with numerous weedy species and, of course,
cheat grass dominate the site.
~~ Experimental Design
The entire 7 acres wilt be sampled as one community type. A reference area
wt,ll not be established as premining inventory data will be used to develop
reclamation standards.
Quantitative data will be collected at sample points randomly selected. Random
sample selection will be accomplished using a grid overlying the project site.
Grid cells will be 30 m by 30 m. Using pairs of random numbers and Cartesian
coordinates, fifty sample points (maximum number requlredl will be selected. Cover, pru
ductlon, and woody plant density sampling will occur at the same randomly
located point.
Sample adequacy For cover, production, and density will be calculated per the
foliowing formula:
_ T=s~
nmin IdRIT
where nmin = minimum sample size
t = t value for 2-Called test It = 1.282 for 80~ confidence)
s = smple standard deviation
d = detectable change in the mean
z = sample mean
-1-
