DECLARATION OF MARK D. PEARSON <br />I, Mark D. Pearson, declare as follows: <br />The facts and opinions set forth in this declaration are based on my personal <br />knowledge, education and experience. If called as a witness in these proceedings, I could and <br />would testify competently to these facts and opinions. <br />2. I reside in Durango, Colorado, where I have lived since 1993. I am a member of <br />the San Juan Citizens Alliance (SJCA) and Colorado Environmental Coalition (CEC). I have a <br />long-standing interest in the Dolores River Basin. Specifically, I enjoy hiking, Damping, rafting <br />and enjoying the quiet solitude and scenic beauty afforded by these lands and have been doing so <br />for the past 25 years. My educational background includes a B.S. in Engincerirg Physics from <br />the University of Colorado in 1981, and an M.S. in Natural Resource Management from <br />Colorado State University, 1993. <br />I am the Executive Director of the Durango-based conservation group San Juan <br />Citizens Alliance, where I work to protect the primitive characteristics and ecologically sensitive <br />areas of public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Forest <br />Service, including lands in the Dolores River Basin. I also work to inform the public about <br />impacts from proposed energy exploration and development activities and advocate for public <br />participation in land use decisions around energy development activities. <br />4. [have been a regular visitor to the Dolores River Basin, including the San Miguel <br />River watershed. I have rafted the Dolores River between Slickrock and Bedrock on ahalf-dozen <br />occasions over the past two decades, and have hiked extensively in Wild Steer Canyon, Leach <br />Canyon, Bull Canyon and other tributary canyons off of Wild Steer Mesa.
