DiClaudio, President MAY O 3 ~~9~
Mountain Coal Company
PO Box 591 DiYiSiOn of Mineralo a (;,;,,,mss;
Somerset, CO 81434
Dear Mr. DiClaudio:
On April 26, 1996, the Department of the Interior, approved a new
mining plan for Federal lease COC-56447 and a mining plan
modification for Federal lease C-1362 at Mountain Coal Company's
West Elk Mine. The mining plan approval allows you to mine an
additional 36.4 million tons of Federal coal on 2068 acres of
Federal leases COC-56447 and C-1362.
I have enclosed a copy of the mining plan approval document for
these mining plan actions. Please read the terms and conditions
of the mining plan approval document carefully.
Approval of this new mining plan and modification supplements the
mining plans for Federal leases C-1362, C-0117192, COC-56447, and
D-044569 at your West Elk Mine. They were initially approved on
July 15, 1981. Since that approval there have been four (4)
mining plan modifications for those Federal leases which were
approved on August 15, 1985, September 27, 1985, November 21,
1987 and December 22, 1989. In addition, a new mining plan was
approved on December 21, 1994 for Federal lease COC-54558.
The April 26, 1996, approval of the mining plan actions will
increase the number of acres in the approved mining plan areas to
6616 acres. Mining and reclamation operations must be conducted
in accordance with both the Colorado State permit and the
approved mining plans.
If you have any questions, please contact Lawrence G
at (303) 672-5608.
Sincerely,
John Heider, Manager
State Program Support Team
Enclosure
cc: BLM MontY'ose
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
OSM - Denver Field Division
Kline or me
