Bob Oswald
Re: PRELIMINARY Sunday Maps
align drainages from the hand-drawn topos with the drainages on the topo base from
the USGS Quad sheets. Obviously, slight rotation of the tunnel site claim boundary
greatly impacts the relation of the Affected Area boundary to the actual disturbed azea.
I did not present the polygon shape that was submitted by IUSA to the Division in
1998, as there is no documentation or basis for that boundary. Clearly we need to
determine how to address the Affected Area boundary issue for the West Sunday
Mine. Once we have established the Affected Area boundary, I can arrange to get this
boundary marked in the field.
7. TOPAZ MINE, PERMIT M-1980-055, 1" = 100'.
As noted for the Carnation and St. Jude Mines, the Affected Area corners shown on
the Topaz Mine map will be marked in the field, as requested by the Division.
8. GMG MINE, SUNDAY MINE PERMIT, M-1977-285, 1" = 100'.
Since the GMG Mine is now considered a "remote site" under the Sunday Mine
Permit, I have included a sepazate map of this site. As you have noted in your
correspondences, we will need to determine what aspects of the GMG mine site have
been "re-affected" and are now therefore included as additional obligations under the
Sunday mine Permit.
The map that is provided shows the entire GMG Mine site. This map is not intended
to represent that Affected Area that has been impacted by operations following the
issuance of the Permit in 1977.
I wish to reiterate that the maps submitted herewith are Preliminary and aze considered
"working maps" only. As we have established, there aze number of open items that need to be
resolved so that IUSA can prepare maps that completely and accurately depict site conditions
for each Permit. I hope proceeding in the current manner is more effective that having IUSA
submit maps that might require substantial revision and modification. The materials
submitted herein aze not a formal response to the Division Inspection Reports and follow-up
correspondences addressing current Permit problems.
As soon as we can finalize the maps, I will prepaze a formal response, including the final _
maps, that addresses all of the outstanding comments and problems noted in past Inspection
Reports and correspondences. I understand that IUSA also needs to provide final reclamation
maps for each of the Permits. This can only be addressed after I complete finalizing all of the
current status maps for each Permit.
