Bob Oswald
Re: PRELIMINARY Sunday Maps
The General Location Map shows the location of all five of the current permitted areas
and the location of all vent holes. Rather than making five sepazate general location
maps to cover each Permit, I include all five areas on this one base map. I propose
that we will submit five copies of this map so that one map will be in each Permit file.
This map includes the GMG Mine, as you have recently stipulated that it now is an
"Affected Area" that became IUSA's responsibility (in part) since we have utilized
this site for a ventilation shaft. We will need to agree on how much of this site is now
under our Permit. I am not sure if the GMG should be left on this General Location
Map as it is now shown, as it is misleading as to what is actually included currently in
IUSA's Permits. We surveyed everything at the site, but this does not imply that we
have assumed responsibility for everything on this site.
The Carnation, St. Jude, and Topaz sites have the polygon shapes shown for the
"Affected Area" boundaries. These were taken from the old maps currently on file.
As you know, the old maps now on file are of marginal utility; therefore, we had to
work with the locations of the polygons to get the best fit, but we did not change the
size of any of the azeas. Our surveyor was unable to locate any Affected Area
boundary markers in the field for any of the mines; therefore, I have no reason to
believe that markers have ever been established in the field in the past.
Affected Area boundazies are not shown for the Sunday and West Sunday Permits.
As you and I have corresponded, the Affected Areas for these two Permits need to be
resolved.
2. SUNDAY MINE, PERMIT M-1977-285, ROADS AND VENT HOLES, 1" = 200'.
This map is intended to show the detail sites for each of the known vent holes. The
fact that certain vent holes aze shown should not imply that all these holes are included
in the Permit, as I think that some of the really old vents in the Carnation and Sunday
Mine area are "pre-Law". I would like to review this matter with you.
Please note that I have included the three westernmost vent holes (labeled "WS-l,
WS-2, and W2-3" respectively) as part of the Sunday Permit. I am unclear whether or
not all vent holes were permitted as part of the Sunday Permit, or whether the three
West Sunday vents are supposed to be under the West Sunday Permit. I would like to _
resolve this with you.
If you determine the three West Sunday vents are under the West Sunday Mine
Permit, then perhaps we should modify this map and correct the references to show
that there are two Permits involved. In any case, I propose that we keep this map as
part of the file records, as it is the only good way to show where the vents are located.
As shown on this map, as well the others, there are many roads in the Sunday area.
Some of these aze clearly associated with specific sites and locations. Many of the
roads are shown on the original topo base and likely existed long before the mines
were formally permitted. This is another important matter I hope to resolve with you.
