Long
Drvismn Director
Thank you for submitting the above-referenced permit maps which were received bar our office on
4/25/98. I have a few comments about the maps in general, and some specific quesl.ions about the
individual maps. I reviewed the maps carefully, comparing them with the existing ones in the files
and checking Hard Rock/Metal Mining Rule 6.4.3 and 6.4.6 for the Sunday Mine, and Rule 6.3.5
for the other three mines. These rules define the general map standards for 112 permits and 110
permits, respectively. The rules give guidelines for representing both mining and re~;lamation
features. Below are my comments:
General notes
The maps in general are clearly drawn at an appropriate scale, and show most of the: important,
current features. In most cases the boundaries and features correlate to their counterparts on the
earlier maps. There are, however, some significant differences between earlier map:> and these
current ones. My comments about the maps in general are 1) a locatable reference point (such as
a surveyed section corner) must be included; 2) certain onsite structures appear to tie absent from
the new maps, without an explanation (omitted or actually removed?); 3) stormwatl:r/sediment
control structures, observed during inspections in 1997, are not depicted though they should be;
4) besides the waste bench outslopes, there is no topographic or surface drainage information; 5)
certain outlying features (a vent shaft and its access road, for example) are not shown though they
are specifically included in the permit.
