Lemur
Governor
DATE: February 24, 1984
T0: Jim Herron
FROM: M. S. Savage ~y~py~_
RE: Review of Revegetatlon Monitoring Reports for Munger Canyon
(C-020-80) and McClane Canyon (C-004-80) Mines
I have reviewed the revegetatlon monitoring reports prepared by Western
Resource Development for the McClane Canyon and Munger Canyon sites.
The reports were well prepared and Informative about the progress of the
revegetatlon of the sites. At the time of the sampling (July-August, 1983)
revegetatlon was successful in terms of exceeding baseline values for
herbaceous cover and production at both sites. Woody plants at both sites
were in evidence, but not at levels approximating pre-mining. Both sites were
initially seeded in 1979 with additional yearly seeding occurring on areas of
low cover.
Salt Creek Mining has requested that revegetatlon monitoring be suspended
until further disturbance occurs. Based on correspondence between yourself
and me, the revegetatlon undertaken at the sites to date has been temporary in
nature, and will be modified at such time that the sites are permanently
reclaimed. I feel that the Division can suspend the requirement for further
revegetatlon monitoring at these sites until such time as permanent or final
revegetatlon occurs at any given area of either site.
/ph
Doc.
