The following information covers
the time period from June 7, 1997 -June 22, 1997.
General Construction Summary
Construction of the RPE Ponds (TR79) is 90% complete. Topsoil stripping at the RPE was
completed, with all topsoil going to the North Soil Storage area. Phase lA and Phase IB were
partially excavated to build pond berms and level the Phase lA area. The Shaft #1 and #2 azea,
Substation azea (PR07), and Shaft #3 road alignment (MR216} have been cleazed and logged and
topsoil stripping is in progress. The light-use road to Landing #2 was pioneered to Station
48+50. The Dewatering Borehole Pad and Road (MR212) are complete. Significant rain
occurred June 7 through June 9, which halted construction on June 9. Additional small rain
events occurred daily through June 16.
Field Monitoring and Observations
RPE: Partial slope excavations within Phase lA and iB are stable at approximately 4:1. Site
lines above the cut slopes will be established next week before major excavation commences.
No soft spots or water has been observed from the known springs uphill (south) of the
excavation. Old slumped areas observed on the north side of RPE Pond Cell B (in the
highway embankment) were inspected on June 19. This material was found to be loosely
compacted, very moist, clay material. This material was over-excavated and removed
(approximately 60 CY) and back-filled with structural fill.
