Walther
Executive Director
Hal D Simpson. P.E.
Slane Engineer
RECEIVED
APR 12 2001
Division of Minerals end G~slopy
We have reviewed your February 19, 2001 request for a renewal of the Rich Pit
substitute water supply plan on behalf of Western Mobile Southern, Inc., a subsidiary of Lafarge
Corporation. The current plan was last approved on May 18, 2000 and carries an expiration
date of March 31, 2001. The required $217 fee has been paid.
According to the renewal request, mining activities at the Rich Pit are inactive, and there
have been no changes since the previous request for renewal of this substitute supply plan.
This renewal will cover evaporation losses off of the 5 excavations identified in the previous
substitute supply plan that are within the Division of Mines and Geology (DMG) permitted area.
These excavations expose a total of 15 acres of ground water.
Description IDENT No. Size Location
"Inactive" Pit 1406466 5 ac. NW1/4 Sec. 2
Previous "Active" Pit 1406470 8 ac. SE1/4 Sec. 34
2 Used Wash Ponds 1406469 1.8 ac. NE1/4 Sec. 33
Unused Wash Pond 1406011 0.2 ac. SE1/4 Sec. 33
The maximum estimated depletions from the operation total 52.1 acre-feet during the
period April 1, 2001 through March 31, 2002, as shown on Table 1. There is no mining activity
within the Rich Pit boundary, and so the plan provides for no losses due to concrete botching,
water removal via gravel moisture, or pumping for dust suppression.
The source of the replacement water is obtained by MAGUA through the Cherokee
Metropolitan District wastewater treatment plant. Transit lasses are estimated to be 10 percent
from the Cherokee Metropolitan District wastewater treatment plant to Fountain Creek, 1
percent on Fountain Creek to the Arkansas River, and 1 percent on the Arkansas. Table 1
summarizes monthly depletions and transit losses attributable the Rich Pit and required
replacements. MAGUA will obtain 59.1 acre-feet of fully consumable water from the Cherokee
Metropolitan District by MAGUA. This is expected to cover both depletions and transit losses.
