J ~
There are two sets of rail tracks owned by the Denver Rio Grand
Railroad that are adjacent to the silos. One set of tracks run
through the silos and the other set of tracks are roughly ten feet
south of the silos. The Division is aware that both sets of tracks
are used by Mountain Coal Company to load coal from the adjacent
coal mine, and that these tracks must remain open during periods of
time for loading purposes. Demolition contractors have stated that
the rail lines can be protected during demolition of the concrete
silos using various methods.
The Division hopes to conduct reclamation of the silos in late
August or early September of this year. In order to ensure that
the rails remain open during critical periods of time, the Division
needs a detailed time frame in which trains will be loading at the
West Elk Mine. Per our conversation on June 2, 1993, you indicated
that the Denver Rio Grande has rough estimates of loading times a
month in advance. The Division would like to request that Denver
Rio Grande provide a copy of this schedule when it is available to
assist us in planning reclamation work.
At this time the Division has no specifications regarding the
demolition and removal of the concrete silos. If you can foresee
any other problems associated with the silo demolition, or have any
other comments please inform the Division. I look forward to a
response in this matter as soon a possible.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please do
not hesitate to contact me at 866-3567.
Sincerely,
~~~~ s~
~^
Erica S.
