-5-
Numerous wildlife species inhabit the general area. The most predominant are
elk, mule deer and grouse. Other wildlife species include: black bear,
cougar, rabbit, coyote, bobcat, red fox, rodents, bats, skunks waterfowl,
amphibians and reptiles.
No known cultural or historic resources exist within the proposed permit
area. This was based on a literature search of the area.
land use within the proposed permit area is pastureland. Management practices
include regulated grazing and the cutting of hay. Most of the proposed permit
area has been affected by mining in the past and either has been or is in the
process of being reclaimed (under prior permits).
Description of the Operations and Reclamation Plan
The Fish Creek tipple permit application addresses the improvement and use of
existing roads, the sediment control system, storage areas, shipping areas and
other items resulting from or incident to the transportation and loading of
coal. The tipple facility will serve to crush, stockpile and loadout coal
produced from the Twentymile Coal Company's Foidel Creek Mine. No mining is
proposed in the permit application.
The proposed permit area is 108 acres, which includes 30 acres of reclaimed
land from prior permits that have been released from bond. The disturbed area
which includes the tipple area and roads covers 31 acres. The remaining 47
acres are not proposed to be disturbed. All land is owned by Getty Minerals
Marketing, Inc.
The Fish Creek tipple was constructed in 1974. The tipple was constructed on
fill material. No topsoil was salvaged and none is available for reclamation
purposes. The overburden spoil will serve as a plant growth medium. A
pastureland and a cropland seed,~ixture will be planted to achieve the
proposed post-mining land use. Revegetation success will be determined by
comparison to established reference areas.
~( `~
~ ~ov Sv,-e ,
