Dept. of Natural Resources
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: Temporary Cessation of Operations at Wyoming Fuel Company's
Canadian Strip Mine near Walden, Colorado
Dear Mr. Shelton:
By this letter Wyoming Fuel Company is submitting a notice of
intent to temporarily cease operations at the Canadian Strip Mine
near Walden, Colorado.
Wyoming Fuel Company intends to cease operations on July 15,
1982. In accordance with Section 4.30.1 of the Regulations of the
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board for Coal Mining we are pro-
viding the following information.
Prior to cessation of operations we will have disturbed 61
acres. Approximately 24 acres of this has been topsoiled and
seeded. The extent of the pit is approximately 600 feet wide by
3600 feet long and 200 feet deep.
Reclamation prior to the above date has included 24 acres
which have been topsoiled and seeded and 16 acres of overburden
stockpile graded to near the final contour.
The activities which will continue during the temporary cess-
ation will include minimal shaping and grading required to pre-
vent erosion in the overburden stockpile area, environmental moni-
toring including monthly checks of static water levels, quarterly
water quality sampling, NPDES compliance, routine maintenance of
ditches, culverts and other water treatment facilities and finally
efforts by Wyoming Fuel Company to meet all permit requirements and
stipulations imposed by our permit. All stipulations will be met
which do not involve earth moving activities. Those activities
which require earth moving or new disturbances will not be met,
rather an extension to these stipulations is requested by Wyoming
Fuel Company.
