Box 488
Glenwood Springs, Colorado 81602
RE: West Rifle Pit Amendment - File No. 81-6
Dear Mr, Tingley:
The October 5, '1982 meeting on-site with yourself, Mr, Richard White and
Mr. Mike Grode was very constructive. I wilt briefly summarize the results
of that meeting:
A. Large cottonwood trees and buffer strips (100 foot setback from the
Colorado River) have been marked for protection against destruction.
B. Large stumps will be placed on the lake bottom to pro vi de~fish habitat.
C. In addition to transplanting 12 to IS young cottonwood trees
(15 to 25 feet in height), the operator agreed to also randomly
plant 50 bare-root cottonwood seedlings.
In order to consider this amendment application adequate for the November
17-18, 1982 meeting of the Mined Land Reclamation Board, the follolving
items must be addressed in detail.
1. Please provide a timetable and expected survival rate for the
tree planting program.
2. Please clearly portray all berms and ditches to be constructed
on the Mining Plan Map. Please portray the berms and ditches
to terrain upon completion of mining on the Reclamation Plan Map.
