' Results:
The reclamation activities were performed in the fall of 2001 according to plan.
Deadlines were met and goals achieved in the manner prescribed. Recontouring
goals were achieved and the aesthetic qualities desired were met.
Conditions during construction were generally dry with essentially no moisture in
the fill. Several precipitation events occurred late in the fall and winter that
provided some moisture for seedling establishment. However, the spring of 2002
was exceptionally dry with only 0.67 inches of precipitation recorded on site
during the months of April through June.
These conditions put exceptional stress on the seedling establishment. Even
with these less than ideal conditions acceptable seedling density and
development were observed. Seedlings of numerous species of grasses, forbs,
and shrubs were noted in our inspections. Photos are included showing the
development by September. It should be noted that grass seedlings are
expected to be in a senescent state in this area for this time of year. Their size
and development indicate sufficient establishment to survive and mature in
forthcoming years.
Even with the extreme conditions of the site as well as the harsh weather
experienced this year the vegetation appears well on its was to a successful
establishment.
The following photos provide further documentation of site from pre-reclamation
through to the current conditions:
Blue Mountain Energy, Inc. 7 Staley Gordon/East Portal Area
