MEETING NOTES
Date : May 1 1 , 1984 0(~l / ' ~~~
Participants; JimMcArdle, CMLRD-Wildlife Specialist; Rocky Beavers, CMLRD-
VegetationSpecialist;S.D. Hasenjager, VTN
Subject : Biology Program For the Nahcolite Project
At the meeting with CMLRD on permitting requirements for the Nahcolite Property,
I noted that LGL had performed a significant amount work on the. property, and that
while some minor updating may be required in certain areas, a foil scale baseline
study should not be required. [suggested that CMLRD allow For the presentation of
data at two levels of intere;ity: (1) less detail would be required to permit the approxi-
mately 6,000 acres which will not be disturbed by mining activities, (2) more intensive
studies would be performed on the approximately 2,000 acres oi' land that will be dis-
turbed. This concept was approved by the representatives of CMLRD.
The following agreements were reached concernirg the soils, vegetation, and wild-
life program:
SOILS
• Order [II soil survey will be suffiicient to permit the 6,000 acre undisturbed
areas.
• Order II soil survey will be required For all areas that will be disturbed for
the purposes of the mining permit application.
• Order II soil survey will be required For any areas disturbed at a later time.
VEGETATION
• LGL's 1980 baseline study are sufficient for permitting purposes for the
6,000 acre undisturbed area.
• A vegetation map {200:660 scale) will be required For the entire 8,000 acre
permitted area,
• More intensive sampling will be required for the 2,000 acre area of disturb-
ance. CMLR prefers a random sampling rather than anon-random sampling
method ,
• I will discuss the final sampling program For the 2,000 acre disturbed area
with CMLRD after Field reconnaissance and prior to sampling.
• Any areas to be disturbed at a later time will require more intensive
studies.
WILDLIFE
• LGL's baseline studies are sufficient For permitting the 6,000 acre undisturbed
area and the 2,000 acre disturbed area subject to tl~ following provisions:
1 . The 2,000 acre area to be disturbed and appropriate nearby areas will
be examinsd for raptor nesting sites.
2. Discussions will be held with CDOW, BLM, and other agencies to
review the current status and trends of deer, carnivore, sage grouse,
