S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to issue a Permit (C010932-04664) <br />for the recompletion and operation of aClass Inon-hazardous disposal well known as the Getty <br />No. 1-7LW. The Getty well is located about 3 miles northwest of De Beque, Colorado and about <br />11.5 miles southwest of American Soda's soda ash processing plant in nearby Parachute, <br />Colorado. It is presently permitted as a Class II disposal well. The facility covered by the <br />application is in the south-west poition of the Roan Creek Drainage that is a part of the Piceance <br />Creek Basin. The legal location is: NE 1/4 of the NE I/4 (1282 feet from north line and 356 feet <br />from the east line) of Section 7, Township 8 South -Range 9? West, 6`h PM., Gazfield County, <br />Colorado. <br />This injection well will be permited for the disposal of reject fluid from the processing of <br />sodium carbonate brines. The well will be permitted for injection into an injection zone that <br />extends from the top of the Cozzette Member of the Iles Formation at a depth of 3,864 feet below <br />ground surface (BGS), perforated from 3,911 to 3,927 feet BGS, to the base of the Corcoran <br />Member of the Iles Formation. The Corcoran Sandstone is perforated from 4,077 to 4,241 feet <br />BGS. These two intervals are separated by a shale interval making up the base of the Cozzette <br />Member. The injection zone is confined by a tongue of the Mancos Shale on top, and the main <br />part of the Mancos underlying the injection interval. <br />BACKGROUND <br />EPA Region VIII is currently reviewing an application for aClass Inon-hazardous <br />Underground Injection Control Permit from American Soda, LLP., regazding the disposal of <br />1 <br />~Pdnted on Recycled!' <br />
