Representatives of Energy Fuels Coal, Ina (EFCI) have observed a coal fire on
a refuse pile last week. The pile was associated with apre-law Corley Mine and is
located on land owned by Dr. Corley. The refuse pile also overlies the Southfield
underground mine workings, but is not within the Southfield Mine disturbed area and the
pile was not associated with the Southfield Mine. In an effort to extinguish the
smoldering refuse pile EFCI plans to assist Dr. Corley in containing the burn area. These
activities will not cause EFCI to assume liability for the pile.
I have contacted Steve Renner and Jim McArdle in the Abandoned Mine Lands Program
in our office. They maybe able to assist Dr. Corley with a permanent solution for the
refuse pile. Either they or 1 will be in contact with you soon.
Please feel free to contact me if you have additional questions.
Sincerely,
Sandra L.
