CLARK CCAL CG1AfPAPIY <br />RSPCRT ~ MiR& FIRE AIiD E%AMiPtATIOIi ~' July 9, 1958 <br />' On J31y 8, Thomas A11en, Colorado Chief Coll Mine In- <br />spector, reported to this ePflce that a fire had been discovered <br />in the "$" seam workings. upon arrival at the mice, Lhe Pollow- <br />1ng dray, I learned that !~, McLain fJ'Cannor, superiateadeat, had <br />found evidence of the fire when he went to the mine to cheek the <br />fan the evening oP Sway, July 6. He summoned the mine foreman <br />and they attempted on examination of the fire area, but were <br />driven back Px~ a point near ist left entry by smoke and gas. <br />Deputy state mine inspector, J. J. Roddy in Grand Junetion,'Q3orado, <br />was then notified as were several workmen, and temporary brattices <br />were installed pending installation oY concrete block fire seals. <br />Y'he U. 5. Bureau of Mines in Denver vas notified, and A. Z. DimitroPf <br />from Denver arrived at the mine July 7. <br />Wnen examined Juiy 9, the last aP four fire scale was <br />being completed at locations shown on the sketch sent to you by <br />the Bureau of Mines. Gas sample pipes were placed in the seals <br />which were plastered on the outside and tested for leaks. <br />Mr. O'Connor believes the file, which vas from spontaneous <br />combustion, was in partially~~ve$ roam workings near the inside <br />end elf' 1st and 2d left entry. Reserve workings in 0 left entry <br />Of "B" seam sad all workings in the active "C" seam, 5,~ ~~t, above, <br />were not affected by the fire or by sealing, so that production <br />will be uninterrupted. <br />"C" seam workings were found to be orderly and reasonably <br />' Weil-timbered anfl rockdusted, Ventilation appeared to be good <br />in all unsealed parts oY the mine. The company has recently been <br />awarded s contract to supply coal for power plant use. <br />Production records were checked and Pound to be in agree- <br />ment with the lessee's reports to daly 1, 1958• <br />; l~~f <br />H.
