tend to restrict the yield of water and there has been no evidence that <br />springs or seeps have been impacted. <br />Basin plans to pump out the same volume of water pumped into the <br />mine as is pumped into the mine. The presence of solids in the slurry <br />will result in a slight increase in the water level when one examines the <br />overall mass balance. Assuming pumpage of 3.69 x 108 gallons in the <br />first year, solids levels would amount to 1.65 feet. in the first year <br />of operation, while the water level is at approximately 7065', the slurry <br />will intersect mains amounting to 266 acres. At 60~ extraction, this <br />provides for water storage of 172 acres. The following calculations <br />assume that the slurry is 34$ solids by volume, and that the slurry will <br />be restricted to the 172 acres of mains. <br />3.64 x 108 gallons x 1 acre -feet z 34% solids = 384.8 acre -feet <br />3.26 x 105 galleys <br />384.8 acre -feet = 2.24 feet maximum elevation rise fmm solids in fast year <br />172 acres <br />The water level would also increase due to water inflows into the <br />mine. This has been estimated at 177 gpm in the mains. This is <br />equivalent to 0.78 acft/day or 284,7 acft/year. Assuming in the worst <br />case that the area of flooding would remain within the 172 acres; mine <br />inflow water levels would rise 1.68 ft/year. <br />284.7 ~ / 172 acres = 1.65 R/year <br />Y~ <br />The slurry recycling project will last five years. At that time, <br />there will be 1.03 x 108 gallons (3161 acre-feet) of water from original <br />sources within the flooded workings of which aII will be derived from the <br />liquid component of the thickener solution. At 7460' over seventy-five <br />percent of the mine workings are below this elevation level, or <br />approximately 3446 acres. Within this 3446 acres are approximately 838 <br />acres of mains, and at 60g extraction, this would be equivalent to 503 <br />acres of mains. <br />This is equivalent to 4024 acft of volume within the mains, <br />assuming an extraction height of 8 feet. <br />503 acres x 8 ft coal thickness =4024 acft of effective storage within the mains <br />There will be monthly monitoring of water levels at the return water <br />shaft (NEW-4), the New Elk East Portal Fan (NEW-2), and the Apache Canyon <br />Fan (NEW-3) . <br />(Revised 7/17/95) <br />2.05-84 <br />
