~ i ` ~wooa,~,a.a.ci,,~aE <br />Consultants <br />1.0 <br />_~ <br />IN7t'RODUCTION <br />l~ <br />Climax Molybdenum Company, a subsidiary of AMAX Inc. has retained Woodwazd- <br />Clyde Consultanu to help develop a slope stability model for Tailing Darn No. 1 aad to <br />assist Henderson Mill personnel in developing the capability of performing; slope stability <br />~ analyses of Dam No. 1. T'he work accomplished for this study is oirtlintd in our <br />Proposal No. 92D141P dated February](), ]992. The work was performed under Climax <br />Molybdenum Company Field Letter Contract No. H-649 dated February 18, 1992. <br />i ~ The following work was accomplished as part of this study and is presented in this <br />report: (1) summary of existing information reviewed; (2) prepazation of the model for <br />~~ slope stability analysis of Dam No. 1; (3) slope stability analyses of the existing height <br />embankment; (4) slope stability analyses to establish threshold levels for• piezometers <br />_~ including slope stability analyses at threshold levels for the existing height embankment <br />I and for the planned height embanlanent; (5) evaluation of geotechnic3l aspects of <br />wetlands proposed to be developed downstream of Dam No. 1; (6) summary of key <br />1~ assumptions, and future considerations and recommendations; (7) prepazation of a users' <br />manual to guide Henderson Mill personnel in modifying input files and Horning slope <br />~~ stability analyses; (8) backup calculations, disk copies of model runs and associated <br />printout; and (9) prepazation of this report summarizing the work outlined above. <br />~~ Additional work to be performed as part of this study includes: site visit (accomplished <br />March 17, 1992); training of Henderson Mill engineering personnel; and ]rresentation <br />of findings to management. <br />I ~ Our findings, opinions, conclusions and recommendations are presented in this report <br />and aze summarized on Tables 1 and 2, Figures 1 through 11 and in Appendixes A <br />~~ through D.
