compacted. Gabion structures would be designed to withstand expected
hydraulic loading and to avoid increased scour of the opposite bank.
• Water Diversions: Water diversion structures will be constructed as
needed to control surface water runoff and erosion. To accomplish this,
waterbars will be constructed on the contour across disturbed areas.
Waterbars will be constructed to the size, spacing, and cross sections
specified by the BLM to divert water from all disturbed areas for at least 3
to 5 years. Waterbars will be constructed to simulate the imaginary
contour lines of the slope, to drain away from disturbed areas, and to
continue across the ROW so that water is carried to established vegetation
whenever possible. All such structures will be constrrcted according to
B1.M specifications. General spacing intervals shown for waterbars are
provided in Attachment 6 -Pipeline Reclamation Plan.
• Mulching. Site specific applications of mulch will be made to control
erosion. Mulch will be applied on highly erodible soils and in azeas with
slopes greater than 15 percent. Only mulch that has been certified to be
weed free will be used. Where applied, the mulch will be spread across the
ROW, temporary use area, and laydown areas as needed.. On steep slopes,
hydromulching may be appropriate.
3.4.2 Revegetation
All disturbed areas will be seeded according to BI.M seed mixlnre specifications,
where provided. Seeding will be done at the end of construc~don or at the next
prescribed seeding season. Seed labels from each bag shall be available for
inspection while seeding is in progress. Certified, weed-free seed will be used
whenever possible, and, in all cases, seed will be free of primary noxious weeds.
A rangeland drill or similaz device that contains disks and sepazate seed boxes
will be used to apply seed.
Revegetation measures specific to the Sage Grouse Treatment Area (see Section
3.2.3) are summarized as follows. The primary reclamation goal for the Sage
Grouse Treatment Area would be to establish suitable sage grouse habitat on the
new pipeline corridor. This would include seeding forb species preferred by sage
grouse as forage and re-establishing sagebrush plants for cover. Actual
opportunities for sage grouse habitat mitigation may be limited based on private
ownership of much of the pipeline corridor within the Sage Grouse Treatment
Area. The following represent potential mitigation measures chat may be able to
be implemented as sage grouse habitat mitigation. On federally owned portions
of the pipeline corridor within the Sage Grouse Treatrent Area, these
reclamation/revegetation practices will be implemented as approved by the
BLM. On privately held portions of the pipeline corridor, these
reclamation/revegetation practices would be implemented only to the extent
that they aze consistent with the requirements of the private landowner.
Pipesre Plan or Development 26
Yan3me Guld~ Sodium Mvieak Project
Aa~n Soda, LLP.
